Terms used in print – a handy checklist:

  • Greyscale – this is a term for black and white. All pics for a black and white print need to be set to greyscale.
  • RGB [Red, Green, Black] – colour profile for web and Kindle covers.
  • CMYK [Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black] – colour profile for print.
  • 300 dpi – minimum dots per inch for print
  • 72 dpi – usual dots per inch for web
  • Bleed – the amount of extra allowance needed for printing.
  • Trim – this is where the book will be trimmed to.
